In my component one I explored the theme of constructed landscapes and my first thoughts of this theme very good as I enjoy taking pictures of landscapes and this way I could edit them In different ways. As I developed my work I got more interested as I figured more I could do and experiment with however the processes and development of my work also interested me so the more I did work on constructed landscapes the more I enjoyed it. The main artist I based my work off and got ideas from was Aster Reem David whose work impressed me and caught my eye. With his work also seeming achievable with the images that I had for example a snowy atmosphere is in one of his images and mine, also natural beauties like waterfalls which I had images of myself so I felt his work suited my style. From studying his work I discovered that you could use the same image in the same image like a collage but each of them having different moods and tones from editing or taking the same picture in a different way. One threshold concept that I have tackled is the idea that People take\make photographs to express themselves and to show the world in different a perspective; because now I have seen lots of images of the natural world and urban world I understand that the way the photographer photos there work depicts how it comes across which is most likely a way of them expressing themselves.
In my constructed landscapes I have done many experiments for example my most dominate being photoshopped images as not only does it follow the inspiration of Aster Reem David but I enjoyed the process of being able to manipulate the images to make them constructed in my own way. I did this using a variety of techniques on photoshop one being the ability to put images next to each other to construct a collage with the same images like I spoke about before. Other than photoshopped images, I used these images that I produced in my structures to further develop my idea. I made these structures by printing out my images that I wanted to use and put them on card to allow it to stand up and have structure then cutting lines so I could place them on each other. I also experimented with print outs and layering to construct a piece of landscape made out of multiple types of landscapes. I mainly refined my work by looking back it and seeing what I could do to improve, for example I done two structures as the second one is more developed and refined. I developed my investigation by step by step working towards something more, for example my photoshopped images were processed into structures and more. Also my photoshopped images went through lots of trail and error when creating them showing the development. The decisions I have made over this project is what base images to use as that impacts the rest of my work and also who's work im going to be inspired by. Over time my work has overall matured and you can see a visual improvement within my website. A habit of mind which I have exercised a lot is pre-planning which Is something I often forget or am relaxed about so it has been good making it more of a habit. One thing I have found challenging whilst working like a photographer is constantly being filled with ideas as sometimes I find it hard to think of new idea but I realised I had to develop instead of doing something new which is how I changed.
I have used my website to to record the progress of my thinking and making by showing my editing process each time I make something new or develop an Idea, coming along with this is an evaluation of my actions whilst making the piece but not only this but my mental process too. Following along with this I also write a detailed evaluation of my piece I have created. When it comes to my online exhibition I believe it has reflected my work very well as it shows me. Firstly it has all of my favourite work of constructed landscapes and it is presented in a very clean way as it only has those images and a fairly plain background. But the main reason I did this was so the work itself could shine and be appreciated more and not overcome by anything else.
My final outcome of constructed landscapes consists of collages, these collages are by far my favourite as they look very clean and professional. There are three but the one I consider the best is the black and white one with three other images ontop\around it. Not only does it look clean but it has so many unnoticed things for example it uses many different elements within the images which I find is important as my constructed landscapes don't follow an urban path but a natural one. The images are all perfect size and everything just matches each other and they all have the same tone and arranged in a perfect way. I was hoping to create an image with shows off the theme of constructed landscapes and also show my skills of presenting the work. This all did end up working as it came out the way I wanted. I believe I have successfully explored the theme because the work uses multiple images all in one causing me to construct a different landscape to what it was before. If I could do it one more time I would simply do more but with some different images like buildings which I never really explored but could have. This work is personal as I believe I really stepped up with my quality of work when it comes to everything like experiments and even documentation like evaluations. When people view this work I hope they will understand that my work has been thought through and thought about to look good and show off my skills.
